What are the ORCAs?

For over 12 years The Radio Bureau has run the ORCA's, a monthly competition that acknowledges and rewards ad industry creative teams for outstanding radio commercials.

Entries are judged on four criteria:

  • Originality of approach and style of the creative idea
  • Excellent use of the radio medium in executing the creative idea
  • Effectiveness
  • Impact and relevancy of creative idea for client

The creative team behind each month's winning ORCA receives $250 worth of CD vouchers. Those entries that narrowly miss out, but are deemed a high standard receive a Merit Award. Both the ORCA and Merit winning ads go through to the annual Grande ORCA and People's Choice Awards.

A creative way to get free advertising

The clients of the winning ORCA ads don’t miss out – the monthly winners receive a $5000 radio schedule* and if the ad goes on to win the Grande ORCA another $50,000 schedule will be awarded.*
