James Cridland is a radio futurologist - a writer, consultant and public speaker on radio’s future. James has worked in radio since 1989 as an award-winning copywriter, presenter, and internet strategist. In 2001 he joined the original Virgin Radio in London, where he was Digital Media Director: launching the world’s first streaming radio smartphone app in March 2005, and working on the station's podcast strategy (launched in January 2005). In 2007 he joined the BBC to work on the BBC iPlayer for radio, achieving a dramatic increase in the service’s audio quality, and being part of the team that laid the foundations for the UK Radioplayer.
At this free breakfast event, James will give an entertaining world tour of the radio industry, where it’s been, where it’s going and why it has staying power. He will utilise video content, insights and a few laughs to tell the story of how radio engages audiences like no other media - and how advertisers can utilise it to reach their potential customers. With the wider media industry in a state of flux, James will touch on how modern technology hasn’t killed radio, but rather strengthened it – from podcasting to connected speakers and smart devices. In a time where every marketing dollar is vital, it’s time to revisit radio’s place in the modern media mix.
