TRB Student ORCA 2018

Objective:

The Student ORCA challenges ad students to explore the creative possibilities of radio by creating an outstanding radio commercial for a specific brand.

Prizes:

First prize: $500 & award presented by Ralph van Dijk at an invite-only industry event

Second prize: $250 & award presented by Ralph van Dijk at an invite-only industry event


Brief:

Pick any brand that is currently a client of a New Zealand ad agency and come up with an idea that uses radio to promote that brand in a compelling way. Your radio commercials can be 15, 30, 45 or 60 seconds long.

Consider the unique strengths of radio when a) choosing the brand you wish to work with and b) the type of product you wish to advertise.


Judging:

Judges will choose two winners from the entries (winner & runner-up).

Judges will look for:

  • Originality of approach and style of the creative idea
  • Excellent use of the radio medium in executing the creative idea
  • Effectiveness
  • Impact and relevancy of creative idea for client

Submissions:

Submit scripts as a Word doc for first stage of judging.

Shortlisted scripts must be recorded and submitted as mp3 files for final judging.

Technical Specifications:

  • SCRIPTS: Word doc
  • FILE FORMAT: Must be mp3. 
  • AD LENGTH: Must be 15, 30, 45 or 60 seconds long.

Timing:

Brief to students: Monday July 16 at 10 am

Final scripts submitted to tutors: Wednesday August 1 at 5pm

Judging scripts to shortlist: Friday 3 Aug

Recording date and time: Aug 6,7,8

Final judging of shortlisted scripts as mp3 files: Thursday 9 August 

Announcement of winners: Monday 13 August  at the Ralph van Dijk event - Five Knots, Orakei
