The latest findings from Edison Research’s Infinite Dial NZ 2025, show that 94% of New Zealanders are consuming audio every week. This remarkable reach means audio now leads media consumption for all Kiwis, and demonstrates the continued strength of connection that Live Radio and Podcasting have with New Zealand listeners.


Podcast engagement continues to rise, with 55% of all New Zealanders and 71% of under-35’s tuning in monthly. Crucially, the continued growth in podcast and online audio is not coming at the expense of live radio audiences. Live radio continues to demonstrate its resilience, remaining a daily habit, dominating in-car listening, and consistently delivering scaled daily audiences across the country.


This is the third Infinite Dial NZ study from U.S.-based Edison Research. The study is designed to allow for direct comparisons between New Zealand, U.S., and the UK, and explores the rise of online digital audio in New Zealand, along with the platforms and technologies used.In the last week, 73% of those age 16+ in New Zealand have listened to AM/FM radio, 70% have listened to online audio, and 30% have listened to a podcast, according to


The Infinite Dial began in 1998, is the longest-running study of its kind in the U.S., and has since expanded to six countries. The New Zealand version of this study is presented by major sponsor The Radio Bureau with additional sponsors MediaWorks and NZME. The study surveyed over 1,300 New Zealand residents age 16+ on a variety of measures including online digital audio platforms, radio, smart speakers, podcasts, and more.

    About the survey: In March 2025, Edison Research conducted a national survey of 1,007 people aged 16 and older. 295 interviews were conducted by telephone and 712 interviews were conducted online.
